Fan Friday #21 - Latin beats anyone????

Hello again and thanks for stopping by to hear what I'm up to this week. I've been messing with modes and this week it's the phrygian mode that has lent itself to a Latin flavored song. I don't have a title for it yet so maybe you can help me out on this one. Please leave a comment about a title, word picture or just how it makes you feel. Have a great holiday.

Hey Ted, I haven't checked in with you in a while and I have to say, I love the latin feel to what you just came up with. I would love to hear you explore some more music with a latin flare. Keep up the great work.

Love the tune! How about naming it: "Dias de Verano" (Summer Days)

Hey, Ted! I've been away from the internet for a while (not my choice!) and have had fun catching up. Love the new tune. I was going to suggest "Fun in the Sun", but I like Charmaine's idea. Have a safe and happy 4th!

Gotta say, it's not my favorite. I don't know much about theory and modes and all that, but there was just something off about it. It didn't seem to have the same flow and melodicism of your usual work. I could see a Latin tune working on the dulcimer - you know I like going outside the traditional stuff - but this one just didn't work for me.

Hey Shawn, thanks for being brave and telling me what you don't care for. I appreciate your candidness. :-) This one is still definitely a work in progress. I actually started writing this one this morning at 7am. We took a family day on Thur and then we were out late with friends in the evening. I'm glad that you felt at home enough to say it's just okay. Charmaine, I do like the sound of your suggestion. I may even keep it in Spanish when and if we print it. I like this one a lot and I think it has great potential.

Out of all your originals, this is my favorite tune. Latin beats do have an affect on a person. It makes you feel natural and free. I really, really liked it. I think Charmaine's name suggestion is perfect for it.

I like, appreciate, and hear your Acoustic Alchemy reference. Somebody besides me listens to them. RIP Nick Webb.

Idea for title - "Latina julio uno" "Latin piece for July 1st" or just "Latina Julio" Those mode makers are proud of you - I liked the style, form, and variations within the piece. You keep the interest and spirit going while challenging the ears/mind to keep up. Great album cut. (does the winner get a free T-shirt?) Hoped you'd be at KMW, but saw you were elsewhere. Enjoy the weekly concerts - do you Skype lessons? Laurel

Dan, I'm always glad to find another AA fan as well. I love their music and they are who I try to emulate the most through my playing. I've always wanted to play something Latin like they do and I was so excited when this song started to take shape. It really came together in a couple hours and so I wasn't as confident about playing a Latin rhythm like I will be. But thank you for the boost of confidence, I respect your opinion. Melody, I was shocked to see someone say that this was their favorite. :-) That will go a long way in considering what goes on the new album. ;-) Thank you for your note. Laurel, I sent you a personal email. I like your title suggestion as well. Thank you. Donna read your post and shouted "YEAH" to the t-shirt idea. Let's talk about the Skype thing. It should be workable.

I am a sucker for Latin beats. When you record this, if Gersh doesn't want to do the timbales, claves and guiro, I'll handle your Latin perc for ya!
