It Is Well a Hymn for Fan Friday.

This week I wanted to give you something new but I figured that it might be nice to hear something familiar. I've had a number of people ask about doing a solo version of "It Is  Well" and so I thought this might be a nice time to pull this out. As much as I enjoy wrapping the hammered dulcimer in other soundscapes and instruments, it's always nice to play it solo and let the beauty of the instrument ring it's true tone. So come on outside with Donna and I and enjoy the sounds of summer with the sounds of this beautiful instrument. Have a great weekend.

Thanks, Ted. Always nice to hear you play a hymn. You have prompted me to come up with a more interesting arrangement of a hymn on my own than the traditional play straight, play octave higher, come back down, stuff. Speaking of being outdoors, this being summer we are awash in music festivals. The HD lends itself very nicely to Irish/Celtic music as you well know (78 Eatonwood Green is a slip-jig). The Saline, MI Celtic festival was a couple of weeks ago. The Dublin, OH Irish festival begins tomorrow (well, actually today since it's after midnight). I'm leaving for it in a few hours. There are still more this year. Great inspiration for HD music.

A simple, but powerful hymn given a new and even more powerful voice. This one goes to my iPod for sure!!

Lovely music, and got a kick out of the accompanying "chrrr" of the insects. Would make a great background in an actual recording. Sometimes on this arrangement I wanted you to ease off on the chords/arpeggios/runs and open up the tune, let it breathe a bit. Might make the arrangement more dynamic. Thanks so much for posting these "Fan Friday" videos. They are a much needed aural balm.
